SAN DIEGO – The third annual 2012 Philip Rivers 5K presented by EDCO has received immense support from the San Diego business community. Set for Saturday, June 16 at NTC Park at Liberty Station in Point Loma, the event will benefit the Rivers of Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization started in 2010 by San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and his wife Tiffany to help fostered children in San Diego county.
“The 5K benefits the Rivers of Hope Foundation and the programs we have developed to help bring hope to foster children in need,” said Rivers. “The event not only raises money to help, but also brings awareness to this cause, showing what these kids go through in their everyday lives. It’s a fun and great way for the community to get together and support a very worthy cause.”
Family owned and locally operated EDCO is back for its third year as the event’s presenting sponsor. Other Philip Rivers 5K sponsors include Novatel Wireless, Union Bank, Coca-Cola, Ralphs, KFMB-TV Channel 8, Th3 Jack In The Box, Clear Channel San Diego, Roadrunner Sports, Raceplace San Diego, Rubio’s, Gordon Biersch, Bod-Health Nutrition, Souplantation, Papa John's, Cox Communications, Wings N’ Things, Slater’s 50/50, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Simple Nutrition, Noodles & Company, Gaglione Brothers Famous Steaks & Subs, Get 1 Free Magazine, and Vavi Sport and Social Club.
“We’re glad to be back presenting the Philip Rivers 5K,” said Sandy Burr of EDCO. “We’re so proud to continue to support the Rivers of Hope Foundation in its charitable efforts to help foster kids throughout San Diego county.”
The 5K run will begin at 8:25 am and the walk will begin at 8:30 am. After the 5K run, an awards ceremony for the overall top three runners as well as the top three runners in each age division will be held, along with family-themed music and entertainment. In addition, winning runners of each category will receive two tickets to SeaWorld San Diego.
Due to the great sponsor support from the San Diego community, race participants will get a special opportunity to participate in free events and activities throughout the day. These events will include a complimentary food court, a Kids Fun Zone with “bounce houses” from LB Jumpers and games and activites from Kid Ventures, and live music.
